Cathy grew up in Corowa, a New South Wales country town 40 minutes from Albury, before moving to Geelong to start her physiotherapy career.

The introduction of the AFL Women's competition in 2017 drew Svarc's attention. She was quick, athletic, competitive and thought it was a sport she could play and be good at. But it took a move to Brisbane in early 2018 to put the wheels in motion

Originally starting out her career playing for Wilston Grange in the AFL Queensland Women’s League, Cathy Svarc was drafted at pick 16 by the Brisbane Lions in the 2019 AFL Women’s Draft. Debuting for the Lions in round 1 of the 2020 season, Svarc finished off the season laying a career best 21 tackles. In addition to her strength and power in the contest, Svarc has huge aerobic capacity making her another strong runner on the Lions list.

In 2022, Cathy was awarded the 2022 Trademark Player for the Brisbane Lions, a player that's actions always benefit the team as a whole and not just themselves.
