Justin Langer knows what pressure feels like. He’s spent a lifetime performing inside it.
For years, he was one of Australia’s most dependable top-order batsmen - 105 Tests, nearly 8,000 runs, and a reputation built on discipline, fight, and heart. Moving from number three to opener turned him into half of Australia’s greatest opening partnership. With Matthew Hayden, he put together six double-century stands and redefined what toughness at the top of the order looked like.
His final Test in the 2006/07 Ashes was a storybook ending: standing beside Hayden, hitting the winning runs that sealed the Ashes, bowing out alongside two giants - Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.
A few years later, while playing in the UK, he passed Sir Donald Bradman’s first-class run tally. Not many people in world cricket can say that.
Justin’s evolution into coaching was just as impactful. He joined the Australian setup as Batting Mentor, then Assistant Coach, before returning home to lead Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers. Six seasons, multiple titles, and a cultural reset later, he was offered the biggest role in the country - Head Coach of the national team.
What followed? Australia’s first T20 World Cup title. An Ashes victory. A world number one ranking. Justin was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame and honoured as Wisden’s Coach of the Year. In 2022, he stepped down, choosing his family and wellbeing over the nonstop demands of international leadership.
He’s now a respected author, philanthropist, and board member for the West Coast Eagles and Mineral Resources Ltd. A Member of the Order of Australia, he continues to champion causes close to his heart, including cancer research, men’s health, and community support.
