Former British LionsEngland and Harlequins rugby union player Ugo Monye has forged himself a hugely successful on-screen career since retiring from the sport in 2015.

On field

Ugo's rugby career started off at Lord Wandsworth School, with his passion for the sport growing in his teens as he played for Hampshire U17 and U20s teams. Aged 18, Ugo signed professional terms with Harlequins - a team he would stay with until his retirement in 2015. The one-club-man made 241 appearances for Quins, scoring 89 tries and winning the Premiership title in 2012.

Ugo made his England debut in 2008 and after starring in the 2009 Six Nations was awarded a place on the 2009 British and Irish Lions Tour of South Africa. Ugo scored a crucial length of the field try in the final Test, which has gone on to become an iconic moment in Lions history.

Off-field

Since retiring in 2015, Ugo has become a familiar face of rugby on-screen coverage with BT Sport, as well as co-hosting the Rugby Union Weekly podcast for the BBC

Ugo is a champion of women's sport, and recently became the first Chairman of England Rugby’s new Diversity and Inclusion committee.

In 2021 Ugo was named a team captain on the relaunch of panel show A Question of Sport, and he took part in Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC's number one show.
