Anthony 'Harries' Carroll

Harries is one of the most recognisable lifeguards from the globally successful TV series Bondi Rescue, which has aired in over 200 countries for more than 20 years. He has also hosted Australia’s Best Pools on 9Life, using the platform to educate audiences on water safety and practical techniques for backyard environments.

Growing up in Clovelly, Harries has spent nearly three decades protecting the coastline across Bondi, Tamarama, and Bronte, making him one of the longest-serving active lifeguards in Bondi’s history. Across his career, he has rescued over 6,500 people, resuscitated more than 60 individuals, and maintained a record of no lives lost under his watch.

A highly accomplished athlete, Harries is a nine-time Australian Open Longboard Champion and has claimed over 25 Australian and World Masters titles across multiple disciplines. His achievements also include a Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard World Championship title (40-49 years) and world titles in 2km soft sand running.

Through his frontline experience, Harries has become a strong advocate for mental health, having responded to more than 70 suicides along the coastline. He actively supports organisations including Lifeline, Plates for Mates, and Camp Quality, and delivers keynotes and workshops focused on mental health, resilience, leadership, and team dynamics.

Over the past year, Harries has presented to more than 25,000 people nationwide, sharing practical tools to support mental and physical wellbeing, including how to recognise and respond to those experiencing mental health challenges. His work is deeply personal. Harries has firsthand experience supporting his twin brother through severe mental health struggles, which has shaped his understanding, empathy, and commitment to this space.

Harries has played a key role in supporting the community following major incidents, including the Bondi tragedy, where he contributed to both immediate response efforts and ongoing community healing. He also co-hosted the Bondi vigil alongside Olympic gold medallist Jess Fox, which was attended by over 50,000 people and viewed globally.

Beyond the beach, Harries is a qualified Pilates instructor who has delivered sessions at major venues including the Sydney Opera House and for corporate groups nationwide. He has also developed digital fitness platforms (99.c Fit & Fit & Wellness Hub) designed for businesses to support employee wellbeing.

He is the author of Find Your Special Gift, a children’s book aimed at supporting kids facing learning challenges, now distributed internationally.

As one of Australia’s most recognisable faces, Harries works closely with a range of Australian brands aligned with safety, health, and lifestyle, including AH Glass & Fencing and Sapphire Spas, and has partnered with major names such as Qantas, Honda, Volkswagen, Bonds, and Optus. He is also an ambassador for La Roche-Posay, promoting skin health awareness.

Outside of work, Harries enjoys time with his wife Emily, their two beautiful sons, Billy and Leo, and their family pug, Sunny.
