McGough tallied 49 AFL games between Collingwood and St Kilda Football Club.

He is most well known for being the youngest ever winner of the ANZAC Day medal in his second game of AFL whilst still completing his Year 12. 

Post football McGough found himself studying abroad in the United States completing his Journalism degree. He later returned to Australia where he became a teacher and continued playing football in Western Australia where he captained East Fremantle FC in the WAFL playing over 100 games. 

McGough is the current coach of Guilford Grammar School in the PSA competition having also been Assistant Coach for the WA State 18s.
