At just six years old, Michael Zannis lost his sight after an innocuous knock while playing. What could have been the end of a young boy’s dream became the beginning of a remarkable story of grit, resilience, and vision.
Over the last 25 years, Michael has been a driving force in the disability sector. He’s the founder of a national disability charity and has held influential leadership roles across Blind Sports South Australia, Blind Cricket South Australia, and Inclusive Sports South Australia. A passionate trainer and facilitator, Michael also works with organisations to make their digital platforms more accessible, conducting reviews of websites and apps to ensure no one is left behind.
But it’s on the cricket pitch where Michael’s story truly comes alive. A lifelong sports fan, he not only played for Australia’s Blind Cricket team for more than two decades - he captained it. He’s travelled the world representing his country, using sport as a powerful tool to break down barriers and shift perceptions about disability.
Audiences describe Michael as witty, self-deprecating, and deeply authentic. His storytelling brings both humour and humility, weaving together life lessons with key messages that resonate long after he leaves the stage.
Michael Zannis is living proof that the absence of sight doesn’t mean a lack of vision. His journey is an unforgettable reminder of the human capacity to adapt, overcome, and thrive.
