Shane Edwards

Shane Edwards is a three-time AFL premiership player, All-Australian, and one of Richmond Football Club’s most respected modern-era figures. Over a 303 game career, he became a key part of Richmond’s transformation from the bottom of the ladder to a modern AFL dynasty, earning recognition for his creativity, composure, and team-first approach.

A proud Arrernte man, Shane is the 6th all-time games record holder for Indigenous players and the longest serving Indigenous player in Richmond’s history. He played a central role in the club’s cultural growth and Dreamtime initiatives, helping strengthen connection and understanding across the AFL community.

Since retiring, Shane has continued to shape the game at the Adelaide Crows, where he works as Indigenous Player Development Manager, mentoring and supporting the club’s male and female Indigenous players. He is currently also the only full-time Indigenous recruiter in the AFL, identifying the emerging talent across Australia.

Shane also serves on numerous Reconciliation Action Plan committees and the AFL Indigenous Advisory Board, using his experience and perspective to help create more opportunities and stronger pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players.
