Jack Gunston is an AFL footballer and vice-captain playing for the Hawthorn Football Club. Being drafted with pick number 29 in 2009 by the Adelaide Crows, he played 14 games over two years before being traded to the Hawks where he has since been part of huge success.

In his first four years at his new club, Gunston had played in four grand finals, becoming a three-time premiership-winning player with success in 2013-15. The goal-kicker has been dominant up forward for the Hawks, kicking more than 50 goals in a season on four occasions and was named Hawthorn’s leading goal kicker in 2015 and 2016.

Gunston had a career-best year in 2018, being awarded All-Australian team honours, being named the Hawk’s most consistent player and kicking 51 goals.

In February 2019, it was announced that Gunston had been appointed Vice-Captain

Gunston missed the majority of the 2021 season, playing just one game. He suffered a back injury that required surgery, before a premature comeback and recurrence of the injury required further surgery to correct the issue.[25]

Gunston returned to full fitness in the 2022 season, finishing with 32 goals from 16 games and ending the season rated as 'above average' for marks inside 50, goals and score involvements.

At the conclusion of the 2022, Gunston expressed a desire to move to the Brisbane Lions. The Lions sought to trade for Gunston, ultimately acquiring him on 11 October in exchange for AFL draft pick 48 and a future fourth round selection
