After being a talented junior cricketer, Bernie decided to pursue his AFL career. After being drafted by the Adelaide Crows in 2005 during the NAB AFL Draft, Vince proved to be an incredibly important and promising player for the Crows.

Vince debuted in Round 1 of the 2006 season against Collingwood where showed great ability as a growing midfielder. Over his first two seasons with Adelaide, Bernie played only the 10 games as he found his place amongst a senior competition. However by the end of the 2008 season, Vince had played an additional 21 games in which he averaged 18 disposals per appearance.

In 2009, Bernie experienced his breakout year. Throughout his 24 games, Vince collected 659 possessions and 14 goals for the year. This consequently led the elite midfielder to being awarded Adelaide’s Best and Fairest award. Bernie continued to play at great heights during his time in the Adelaide midfield, accumulating an average of 23.75 disposals a game in 2010, 22.9 in 2011 and 20.7 in 2012. Bernie’s consistency is highly commendable as is his ability to impact the scoreboard; in 2012 he kicked a career high of 18 goals. 2012 also saw Bernie play his 100th game for the Adelaide Crows as well as being awarded the Michael Tuck Medal, a medal given to the best pre-season player in the competition.

The 2013 Gillette AFL Trade period saw Vince move to the Demons, providing an opportunity to further develop his game in a midfield role as well as adding experience to a youthful Melbourne list. Settling well into the Demons in season 2014, Vince not only made his mark on the midfield however was also looked up to by the younger players at the club. His 2015 was proved to better his previous year, winning the Keith ‘Blue’ Truscott award as Melbourne’s best and fairest player.

Vince played another consistent year in 2016, totalling 21 games, which included his 200th AFL game. He averaged 25.4 disposals a game and was recognised as a key figure in the building of the Demons’ midfield. 2017 saw Vince average 21.2 disposals a game as he further contributed to the exciting young side.

Off-field Vince is often called upon by media outlets for game analysis, and insight with a unique (and cheeky) outlook including Channel Nine’s AFL Footy Show and Nova 100’s breakfast show with Chrissy, Sam and Browny.
